Good morning, all
Normally, the Show Committee report would be given at the Members meeting, which is this coming Saturday evening. However, since the report is lengthy, and would take considerable time to post to the mIRC chat room, it is shown below. If you see a committee that needs members, that you are willing to join, please contact Chris Kearns or me.
Here is his report, which I concur with. (CHRIS KEARNS)
2006 IFOLG Show Report November 1, 2005
Greetings Folks,
Let me start by saying that this is OUR
show. Whether you are a member of the IILG or the PPLG, your help and
participation is what will make this show a success. As you will see by the
list of folks who are already involved, there is a good mix from both guilds.
If you see an area where you would like to help, PLEASE contact myself, Chris
Kearns ckearns109@yahooh.com or Ron Ross rosaddlery@aol.com
.
Here are the Committees that the Pitt Pounders are in charge of with a list of who is helping
and where we need help:
Program Committee.
Chair: Chris Kearns
Show packet: Maria
Haddock, Pat Hay, Hope Boltz(artwork).
Publicity: Help! We need
folks who will work on all aspects of local advertising as well as folks who will contact publications like the Leather
Crafters Journal and other national outlets.
Banquet: Okay, by now you
may know that we arent having a banquet, but we are planning to have a pie & cider social right before the
Awards Ceremony. There are a number of areas where we need help here: A) Folks to
plan and organize this social. B) Folks
who are willing and have the equipment
to take photos of all the entries in the competition, put those photos on a
disk, and project pictures of the
winning entries during the Awards Ceremony. (Or at least someone who is willing and able and who knows what
equipment we need to borrow or rent to achieve this.) C) Someone to put together a DVD of all
of the past IFOLG Shows using both still photos and video. This DVD will run before & after the
Awards Ceremony (and perhaps copies could be sold as a fund raiser?) D) We
will be having centerpieces filled with small leather goods, to be used as giveaways, on all of the tables during
the Awards Ceremony. If you would be willing to make 30 of one type of item
please contact Peggy Gabauer at peggab@webtv.net
Demonstrators/teachers: Carol Higgins has offered her well
practiced services to get teachers for our
workshops. If you are interested in the possibility of teaching a class, please
contact Carol at higgins@teknology.net We will be having two pre-show, multi day
classes, and we are excited to have Edd Lucas teaching one on making
leather cases! As soon as we get a
confirmation on our other
class we will let you all know.
Demonstrators, we would like to have at least two folks demonstrating at a time, all day Friday & Saturday.
If you are willing to do this, please
let myself or Ron know what you would like to demo as well
as when the best time for you would be.
Show check in: So far Joe & Mary Jane Talbot have signed up to help in this area.
More folks are needed.
Show Programs: Terry Moore will be putting these together. If you have any information
that you feel should be in the program,(such as
people/companys to thank, etc.) you can email Terry at tlmoore1948@akvalley.net We will also need folks who would be
willing to take shifts to hand programs
out and answer questions, providing our advertising brings in visitors to check
out the show.
Site Committee. Chair Gary Draper
Show site: Days Inn Conference
Center, 139 Pittsburgh Road, Butler PA 16001
Room setup: We will be set up in
both of the banquet halls of the Days Inn. We need someone who
can make nice, large directional signs for various places within the
hotel.
Hospitality room: We need folks
willing to supply refreshments as well as folks to man this room.
Commercial sales setup: Ron Ross
will complete the layout of this room as soon as we get exact location of all doorways. (Dave Briggs is in charge of Commercial
sales.)
Workshop rooms: The hotel will setup
the rooms to meet our needs. Once Carol Higgins gets the list of workshops together, we will determine
which room each will be in and the best way to set up for it.
Security detail: Prices have been
gotten from a number of area agencies. Final plans will be made as the show gets closer.
Folks,
like I said before, this is our chance to show what we can do. Please do what
you can to help make this show a success.
If you have any questions, comments or ideas, please drop me an email
or call me on my cell phone: 724-816-3901.
Thanks! Chris Kearns

WHAT TO BRING - NOVEMBER Meeting Project
This month we will be finishing the bracelet we did last month by completing the leather button and closure strap for the bracelet. To complete this you will need to bring a piece of lace about 8 long. It should be a minimum of 1/8 wide. If you have wider lace, that would be better. You will also need something to cut on, either an X-acto knife or scalpel, and a modeling tool with a pointed stylus end. This should take about 15 minutes to complete.
We will also be starting the leather gem stone. We will not be able to complete this part of the project in one meeting. It will take two meetings to complete the gem stone and if anyone wants to make the necklace, it will take another meeting to start the layout and preparation to completely finish the entire necklace.
You will need to bring the following to this months meeting to work on the gem stone:
1. A hard surface you can pound on.
2. Scissors to cut leather.
3. Smooth faced steel hammer.
4. Modeling spoon which will be used to mold the leather.
5. Scratch awl or medium grit sandpaper.
6. White glue and a brush.
7. A sharp knife or scalpel which you can use to round the edges of a couple pieces of leather.
8. A pen or pencil to trace a pattern onto leather.
You will also need to bring leather to the meeting. You will need one piece of leather which is 5/6 oz to use as a base piece of leather. You will also need a stack of leather pieces that are 3/4 oz or lighter to build the gem. The thin leather will give your gem more lines which give the visual appeal. It doesnt say in the DVD, but it appears you can use both veg tan and chrome tanned leather. All the pieces should be 2 x 3. When you stack the base piece and the layers of thin leather, you should have a stack about ½ thick. This is a good way to use all the leather remnants you have on hand.
