Pitt Pounders Leather Guild

THE POUNDER

March 2009

It sure was great finally getting together again for a regular meeting! Because of scheduling difficulties around the Holidays and then bad weather, it had been three months since our last meeting. So folks came ready to talk about what they had been doing, show off their latest projects and get to work on our chipmunk. What a great group of people we have in our guild! Here are some of the highlights of what we talked about:

Tandy Open House, March 20th & 21st.

This is an annual event at our local Tandy Store where Debbie extends an invitation for any and all of our members to do demonstrations while everything in the store is on sale. This is a win/win situation for both Tandy and the Pitt Pounders. A lot of people come through the store these two days and it’s a great time to introduce them to our guild. Once again, Kevin & Draper plan to be there. Are you able to be there to demonstrate and/or answer questions about our guild or leather working? We would love to have you there!

Also, Tandy is looking for Teachers. If you are interested in teaching a series of classes or even a one day class, Debbie would like to talk to you. She is very flexible and will work with you to figure out a schedule that will work for everyone. There are people looking for more instruction than she has time to give. If you would like to talk with Deb about this please give her a call at 724-468-5148.

Our Guild Display Sign continues to take shape as more completed pieces were turned in at the February meeting. If you are working on a piece or two for the sign, we ask that you have them completed and turned in by our July meeting. This will allow us time to put it all together before the IFOLG Show. And if you didn’t get a piece to work on before they were all gone, please let me know ASAP, we have had a few returned just so you could participate in this project. My phone number & email are listed under Newsletter Editor.

As we worked on our chip-munks last month it was evident that the carving pattern wasn’t clear. So here is a somewhat cleaned up carving pattern.

Just remember that you don’t have to cut every hair line that is on the pattern. The important things are to get the direction of the cuts right and to always cut from the point in.

This month we’ll continue where we left off.

Hope to see you there!
