Pitt
Pounders Leather Guild

April 2009
Tandy Open House. Report from
Kevin:
On March 20th, Draper
and I traveled to Delmont, PA, for our annual visit to Tandy Leather. We have
been making this trip for the last three years and it has become a tradition.
Debra Collins, manager of the store, looks forward to our visit every year
during her yearly sale.
We spent most of our time answering
questions. Most of the questions were on proper techniques of dying leather,
tooling, and preparation of leather before carving. We spent two days at the
store and during that time Draper taught a floral design class. This course
usually takes four to six weeks to teach, however, Draper condensed the class
into 3-4 hours. I was there to teach geometric design, but there was no time to
teach the class.
I want to thank some of the people
from our guild that took out the time to come join us. Ron & Brenda
Parison, Lois & Clyde Silvis, Dennis Schilling and Joyce Wedge. Maybe next
year more of the Pitt Pounders would like to join us for this annual function.
Look forward to seeing all you on April 19th for our next meeting.
Hopefully some of the customers that showed interest will be able to attend the
monthly meeting.
Best
regards,
Kevin Cohn
Guild Business Cards
After
attending Tandy’s Open House and fielding many, many questions about our guild,
Kevin has suggested that we once again get Business Cards made up with our
contact information on them. Which would include our web address, the name
& phone number of one of our Officers, and…? Is there anything else that we
need on them? And secondly, do you know where we can get a good price on
Business Cards? If so, please let us know. Thanks!
And maybe
that is something we can talk about at this months meeting: creative ways we
can promote our guild. Give it some thought.

Next meeting:
April 19, 2009
Meeting Place:
Harmony-Zelienople United
Methodist Church
123 N. Pittsburgh Street
Zelienople, PA 16063
What to bring:
Swivel knife, strop, tracing film,
pencil, stylus, your chipmunk or a piece of 4/5 oz or heavier leather aprox.
5X7, mallet, bevellers, including your pointed bevellers, F926, hair blade,
pear shaders, matting tools and tooling surface.
Tooling Session
This
month we will finish up the tooling on our chipmunk. Even if you are starting
from scratch, we can help you to carve, tool and hair your very own small,
cute, rodent. Just bring whatever tools and supplies you can from the list on
the front page, and we’ll go from there. What’s that? You don’t have the tools
and supplies listed? That’s okay! Just come ready to work on leather and you’ll find a group of folks ready to lend you whatever you need.
Summers coming (Yippee!!)
Something
to think about: Over the last few years we have taken the summer months off.
With everyone’s vacations & family gatherings & get-togethers and all
the wonderful activities of summer, attendance is usually a hit or miss thing.
Just so everyone is on the same page, we’ll talk about this at this months
meeting and decide if our May meeting will be the last until September, or if
enough of us will make the extra effort to be there all summer.
